Glasgow Airport - GLA

Glasgow, United Kingdom (GB)

Getting around the airport

Single terminal

Glasgow Airport lies 11km west of the city centre and is the largest of two airports serving the city (the other is Glasgow Prestwick). It has one main terminal, with three piers:

  • West Pier (Concourses A and B): International flights
  • Central Pier (Concourse C): Domestic flights, mostly to Heathrow and Gatwick, largely by British Airways and Flybe
  • East pier (Concourse D): Low-cost, Irish and Scottish island flights, mostly by easyJet, Loganair and Aer Lingus

This terminal area has three levels, with most facilities located after security:

  • Ground floor: Check-in, Arrivals, several landside shopping and eating options
  • First floor: Security, airside duty-free shop and eating options
  • Second floor: Airside lounge (Upper deck) and restaurant (Frankie & Benny's)

There's also a small satellite Terminal 2 with low-cost carrier check-in areas, that leads to the East Pier.

Getting into Glasgow

Bus is best

There's no direct rail link to the airport, so bus or taxi are your best options.

Bus

The First 500 Glasgow Shuttle is the official bus into the city from the airport and offers free Wi-Fi. It takes you to the city centre in around 15 minutes (more in rush hour), and also stops at Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central rail stations. It runs 24 hours a day, leaving as often as every 10 minutes. You can also take McGill’s 757 bus service to Paisley Gilmour Street rail station (the nearest station to the airport), Paisley town centre, Erskine and Clydebank. This bus accepts National Rail tickets between Glasgow Airport and any rail station.

Cost: GBP 8 one-way, GBP 12 return (within 28 days)
Buying tickets: On the bus (cash or card), mTicketing (using your phone as a bus ticket, download the First Bus m-tickets app) or online (print out your ticket: www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/glasgow/journey_planning/glasgow_shuttle/book.php)
Location: Bus stops outside Terminal 1 (Stance 1 for the 500, Stance 7 for the 757)

Taxi

All taxis must use the pick-up and drop-off points on the ground floor of Car Park 2. Taxis are not allowed to park at these locations and will be charged a premium tariff for stays longer than ten minutes. The same rules apply to private vehicles, so keep them in mind when making arrangements to be picked up from the airport.

Cost: Around GBP 20-25

Train

You can take Bus 757 to Paisley Gilmour station and take a train into Glasgow, but the total journey time is around 45 minutes, and so we don't recommend this route.
